HUNDREDS HOMELESS.
Hurricane Strikes S. Carolina With Full Force. 12FT TIDE REPORTED. (Reed, noon.) WASHINGTON, Aug. 12. The Red Cross announce that a hurricane struck Charleston, South Carolina, with full force at 7 p.m. The velocity varied from 75 to 100 miles an hour. It is said to be moving northward at IS miles an hour and was expected to reach Georgetown, South Carolina, at 11 uVlock to-night. A message from a radio amateur at Charleston said that six persons were drowned by a 12ft tide, resulting from the hurricane. Hundreds of people are homeless. A later message says the Red Cross reported that 25 are dead on St. Helena Island, off the South Carolina coast. '
