BELIEVED DROWNED.

GISBORKE, this day. A middle-ajred Maori, Mr. Tuakane Wanoa. is believed to have been drowned in the Awatere River, near Te Araroa, last evening. Mr. Wanoa was seen to enter the flooded river in an endeavour to swim across to his home. He was heard to call out. and then disappeared. It is believed that be was washed out to sea. but so far a search for his body has been unavailing.—(Press Assn.)
