LECTURES SUSPENDED.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. ! There will be no course of Auckland University extension lectures in Whangarei this winter. The Whangarei Borough Council last night passed a motion thanking the Auckland committee for its inquiry, but stating that in view of the generous grant which it had made to patriotic and centennial activities, it regretted that for this season it would be unable to sponsor or make a grant for a series of lectures. Last year the lectures cost the council £56. Members of the council expressed regret at the suspension, even if temporary, of the lectures. If circumstances are favourable the council will consider a lecture scheme next year.
