DISPUTE AT miX. Arising out of dissatisfaction with the wages and conditions of work, the employees of the Reid (New Zealand) Rubber Mills, Limited, at Penrose hold stop-work .meetings this week, on Wednesday and Friday. As an outcome of the earlier meeting, the secretary of the Rubber Workers' Union (Mr. X. V. Douglas > and several workers interviewed the directors on the matters iu dispute, which included the reinstatement of six of the men who had been convicted the previous week in connection with thefts from the firm. Of those concerned in the last condition, about twenty* all had been taken back but eight, and two of the latter had obtained work elsewhere. As a result of conferences with the directors, in which it was pointed out by the workers that of the 200 men and women. employed there was constant change in. the personnel owing to dissatisfaction with the conditions and wages, it'was agreed to refer the dispute to an independent tribuual. The matter is considered of public importance in view of the part played by rubber products in the country's milk production, as well as in war materials.
