SOME MONTHS HENCE?
PATRIOTIC FUND APPEAL.
AUCKLAND'S SUGGESTION. While supporting the proposal of the National Patriotic Council to launch a Dominion-wide appeal for funds in the same manner that was adopted in the case of the Fighting Services and the Sick and Wounded Fund campaigns, the opinion wae expressed l»y the executive of the Auckland Metropolitan Patriotic. Committee last night that the appropriate time for such an appeal must obviously be some months hence. It was felt that before a final decision was made the viewpoint of each of.the nine zone executives should be ascertained.
It was explained to the executive that under the proposed scheme all insney collected in the provinces would remain in the funds .of the provincial councils, and any sums sent to national headquarters would be divided proportionately.
A suggestion was made by the Hauraki Plains inter-zone committee that dairy suppliers in the district should be asked to donate, through the dairy companies, 1 per cent of their proceeds of the 1939-40 season to the provincial fund. No action was taken, it 'being pointed out that the Metropolitan executive's sphere of activity did not embrace a farming district, it was suggested that the provincial council should make inquiries from the dairying authorities.
No snake, frog or lizard has ever been seen in Newfoundland.
