RECRUITING HUT.
USE AS A COOKHOUSE.
REMOVED FROM QUEEN STREET
The recruiting hut which was erected on portion of the footpath outside the General l'ost Office several months ago, and was instrumental in substantially increasing the number of volunteers enrolled, was removed this morning, and will henceforth be used as a cookhouse at one of the defence points near the city.
The move is in accord with the policy of making conditions as convenient and comfortable as possible for units who are carrying out these important duties. It is interesting to note that the buildings now in use by men of the Military Reserve on guard duty on the water-' front were built by- the men themselves during their spare time. The entire encampment, with the exception of the cookhouse, bathroom and lavatories, was constructed by the men, and the work done includes two mess huts, an officers' hut and a' guard room. Tlie many tents, which have iron roofs, were also assembled by the men, who completed a good job *by laying down lawns and gardens flanked by neat paths in permanent materials.
