GOVERNMENT BONUSES. The shooting of pests which destroy j young trout and native and* game birds ' was recommended by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, ' on Saturday as a lucrative sideline for farm workers and men who wished to get their sight in training with a gun. Last year, he eaid, bonuses of 2/ each were paid on the shooting of 89.1 black shags, 156 stoats, 23 ferrets and polecats and Cd each on 875 hawks. "Not only do the shooters make some money," i the Minister added, "but they rid the j country of a large number of vermin I which "do great harm to our bird life." '
