OBITUARY.
DEATH AT 86 YEARS. FORMER MAYOR OF NAPIER. (From Our Correspondent.) HASTINGS, Sunday. A former Mayor of Napier and a prominent business executive, Mr. Predric Wanklyn Williams, died yesterday at hi* home in Napier at the age of 86 years. A eon of the late Bishop W. L. Williams, he wa* born in Poverty Bay, and was educated, at St. John's College and the Church of England Grammar School, Auckland. In 1880, Mr. Williams opened business on his own account in Napier. The business was converted in 1891 into the well-known flrm of Williams and Kettle, Ltd., of which Mr. Williams was chairman of directory until his retirement in 1918. He continued as a director of the company until his death. Elected Mayor of Napier in 1903, Mr. Williams was elected unopposed for a second term. He figured prominently in church work, and for many years was a member of the Diocesan Synod, the Auckland and Wakpu Clergy Pensions Board and St. John's College Trust. At the age of 80 Mr. Williams began to write a 'book, entitled "Through 00 Years." This work was published last year, proving a valuable contribution to th*. historic writings in connection with the Centennial. Mr. Williams is survived by his wife and three sons. MR. EDMUND JONES. (By Telegraph.—Free* Association.) WELLINGTON, thie day. The death has occurred of Mr. Edmund Jones in his ninety-seventh year. At the time of his death he was the oldest living old boy of the Nelson College. He was a printer on the West Coast in the palmy days of the gold digging. He (subsequently came to Wellington and joined the Government Printing Office. He retired on superannuation 32 years ago.
