" FACE FACTS."
LATIN-AMERICAN STATES.
NEW ZEALAND CELEBRATIONS.
People of the Latin-American countries living in Xew Zealand yesterday observed the annual celebrations in honour of the international figure, Simon Bolivar, who was largely instrumental in forming tie much discussed Pan-Ameriten Union. In remarking upon the anniversary, the Consul for Panama at Auckland, Senor Quiros y Quiros, said that the LatinAmerican countries were determined t» remain free and independent and were firm in their belief in the democratic sy stem. "The American •countries are praying that they will never have to use force to maintain their liberty and sovereignty,** said Senor Quiros, "but if the necessity should arise, we are sure that the great force of a group of countries, healthy and free, would, in the words of President Roosevelt. be ready to face the facts in any eventuality." Although the war in the Old World affected the tranquillity of Pan-American countries, Senor Quiros emphasised the fact that meetings in Panama, Buenos Ayres, Lima and Havana had all decided to adopt one line of conduct—that of non-intervention. The people declared themselves independent, fearless of foreign invasion and deaf to the voice of dictatorship, which was endeavouring to revolutionise the world.
