SOLDIERS' HUSSIFS.

DARNING NEEDLES WANTED

When orders were last placed for darning needles for inclusion as part of the contents of hussife (pocket sewing kits) which the National Patriotic Fond Board, through the "provincial patriotic councils and their committees, undertook some time ago to provide for the Army and Navy, they were not available in quantities as large as required. In an endeavour to assist in this direction an appeal was made in Wellington on behalf of the board inviting people to make gifts of darning needles. There was an enthusiastic response; in a week the board received approximately 800 needles.

It is felt that probably there are people in other districts who also may be able to make darning needles available to assist further the splendid work women and girls are doing in making and stocking the huesifs. Accordingly, they are invited to co-operate.

One darning needle and two sewing needles are included in each hussif, but so far the same difficulty has not been experienced in obtaining the full requirements of sewing needles.

Gifts of darning needles may be left with the'provincial councils or any local patriotic committee.
