DAMAGE BY FIRE.

Extensive damage to a porch and one room and their contents was caused by a fire which broke out in a house owned and occupied by Mr. O. B. Thomas, at 10, Grcenpark Boad, Ellerslie, yesterday afternoon. The outbreak was extinguished by engines from the Great South Boad and Onehunga fire stations. Machines from the Central and Parnell fire stations answered a call shortly after nine o'clock last night to the premises of the New Zealand Cricket Bat Company in Broadway, Newmarket, where a small fire had broken out in a stack of timber. Little damage was done, the flames being extinguished 1 without difficulty.
