LAUNCH SUNK. CRASH INTO ROCKS. VESSEL LATER BEACHED. MISHAP AT WHAKATANE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHAKATANE, this day. When the steering chain carried away when the craft was passing through the harbour entrance at about five o'clock last evening, Mr. N. Carter's 32ft launch struck hard on the rocks, tearing a big hole in the bow. The launch sank almost immediately. The harbourmaster, Captain Carey, later towed the launch up harbour and beached it near the Rowing Club's pavilion. No one suffered injury as a result of the mishap.
