MINER'S DAMAGES CLAIM.
RIDER ADDED BY JURY.

GRE\MOUTH, Tuesday.
A ™ in . er ' Thomas Walker, who brought a claim in the Supreme Court for £1500 damages against the Crown for personal injuries received in the Liverpool State mine when he was thrown from a hoist car which struck a rock, was awarded £800. to-day. The jury added a rider earnestly recom mending the adoption of a more efficient method of control of the hoist car by the person in the car, a considerable reduction of the speed of the car and stricter supervision to ensure that the lin© was clear before the car was put in motion. The hearing occupied two days, lengthy evidence being tendered for the Crown to indicate that the present method accorded with usual mining practices in New Zealand and other countries.
