RECENT ACTIVITIES OF CLUBS AND SOCIETIES.

United Women.—At the last luncheon meeting Miss A. Lennon spoke on the "Right To Be Well Born." Several members of the Hamilton branch attended.

Lancashire Society.—The usual social and dance was held in the Manchester Unity Hall, Mr. Smith presiding. Elocutionary items was given by Mr. Garmage and community singing was held.

Christian Alliance. —Miss Douglas, president, presided at a gathering held in honour of Miss Baker, who for some years has been president and who has resigned from the position. On behalf of the Alliance, Mrs. MacLeod, a former secretary, made a presentation of an easy chair, radiator and rug.

Classic Clnb. —Contributors to the programme presented at the sixth meeting of the season, which was presided over by Dr. S. Kenneth Phillips, were Misses Phyllis Renner, Judith Glover, Rachel Mawhinney, Agnes Auburn, Mrs. Maud Lysaght and Mr. Henry Donaldson. • • • •

Cumberland and Westmorland.—A costumed "Back to Childhood" social was featured for the monthly gathering of the association, held in the Fabian Cljub rooms. Mr. E. Parkinson presided. First prize for the most original costume was" awarded to Mrs. S. Black, with Mrs. S. Hewson taking second place. • • • •

Ladies' Bowling Club.—The Auckland Ladies' Bowling Club (Inc.) held their annual prize night in the "Higher Thought" Hall. Mrs. Boles, president, [received the members and their friends. (Trophies won during the season and presented by Mrs. R. Smith were as follows:—Topley Cup. Mrs. McAuliffe, runner-up, Mrs. C. Hill; Hudson-Mclvor Cup, Mrs. L. Boles, runner-up, Mrs. E. Hudson; Sayegh Cup (first year), Mrs. A. Clareburt, runner-up, Mrs. Bampton; percentage fours, Mrs. L. Boles, Mrs. R. Smith, Mrs. Tickner, Mrs. Webber; Spooner Cup (handicap singles), Mrs. A. Clareburt, runner-up, Mrs. H. Young; Maud Pairs, Mrs. L. Boles and Mrs. Bampton, runners-up, Mrs. Roberts and Mrs. A. Clareburt.

Yorkshire Society—The fortnightly social and dance was held in the Fabian Club rooms, the guests being received by Mrs. H. G. Staley, wife of the president, assisted by Mrs. H. Caton.

Revue Company.—A bright and varied programme was presented by Ophir Rees and his Radiant Revue Company, at the Hobsonville air base and the Church Army Hut at Papakura military camp.

Problem Club. —The monthly bridge afternoon was held in the Farmer's tea rooms, Mrs. Carter, president, welcoming the guests. The prize winners were Mesdames Perreau, King, McGinley and Rendall.

Penwomen's Club.—An interesting address, ranging from languages as they affect nationalism to the philosophy of Krishnamurti, was given by Dr. G. P. O'Shannesey Friday afternoon. Items were given, and Mrs. Helen Griffiths presided.

Radiant Health Club (Senior). — Taking the form of a lantern lecture, an address on "Sex Education," was given by Dr. \V. Pettit. The speaker eaid that wise guidance and early training in such matters was very important, and he stressed the responsibility carried by parents, • • • • Music Lovers' Club. —The fourth meeting of the season was held in the Overseas' League rooms, when a well varied programme was presented under the direction of the president, Mr. Walter Impett. Those taking part were Misses D. Franchi, N. Veale, L. Phelan, M. Craig and Mes«rs. F. Port, W. R. Armour and A. Porter. • • • • Plunket Society.—The Mount Eden committee held their monthly meeting, Mrs. J. Abbott occupying the chair. The nurse's report for the month of June showed that new cases had been 38, visits to home« 196, visits to Balmoral rooms 1230, and Mount Eden visits to Symonds Street 276. During the month members organised a successful jumble kale.
