CAIRO, July 5.
In a raid on Alexandria yesterday a number of bombs fell near King Farouk's yacht, which was anchored in the western harbour. The vessel had three large green crcseent-marked Egyptian flag? painted on the sides.
A further message from Alexandria gives details of the raid, in which Mr. Churchill, in the House of Commons, I said French ships joined with the British in repelling the raiders. Forty bombs were dropped, mostly in an attempt to hit warships in the harbour. Terrific anti-aircraft fire forced the raiders to turn back. Most of the bombs fell into the sea. Several struck the Customs building, wounding several natives. Another dropped 10 miles to the west of Alexandria, killing two natives.
Bombs also fell on King Farouk's estate at Montaza and killed 12 natives.
An Italian communique, issued at Rome, says that Italian 'planes, despite adverse weather and anti-aircraft fire, machine-gunned airfields at Malta and destroyed eight enemy 'planes. It is also claimed that Italian 'planes effectively bombed British ships at Alexandria, several of which were hit.
