KNITTING A BABY'S VEST.
Several Sunbeams have asked for directions for knitting a buliy's vest. For this you will need 2oz wool (2-ply) and No. 10 needles. Measurements.—Length, 12in. Width, all round under arm, 17in. Cast on 04 stitches, then k 2, p 2 for 10 rows. Work in alternate rows of plain and purl until work measures 9in, ending with a purl row. Work as follows: — First Row.— * * k 11, *. make 1, k 2 together, k 3 repeat from * to the last 13 stitches, then make 1, k 2 together, k 11.
Second Row an<l Every Alternate Row 1 —K 1, purl to last stitch, then k 1. Third Row.—K 9, k 2 together, mn.k< 1, k 1, *, make 1, k 2 together twlct; make 1, k 1, repeat from * to la&t 12 stitches, make 1, k 2 together, k 10. Fourth Row.-rSame as second row. Fifth Row.—Same as first row. Sixth Row. —K 1, purl to the last stitch, then k 1, * *. Seventh Row.—Knit plain. Eighth Row.—K 1, purl to the last stitch, then k 1. Repeat from * * to * * otice. Work one row plain. ?Cext Row.—K 1, p 19, cast off 24. p 19, k 1, work on 20 stitehes as follows: First Rcrw. —* K 11, make 1. k 2 together, k 3, make I, k 2 together, k 2. Second Row.—K ]. pufl to the last stitch, then k 1. Third Row.—K 9. k <-2 together, make 1, k 1, make 1. k 2 together twice, make 1, k 1, make 1, k 2 together, then k 1. Fourth Row.—Same as second row. Fifth Row. —Same as first row. Sixth Row.—Same as second row. Seventh Row.—Knit plain. Eighth Row.—Same as second row, re[H*at from * to * twk-e, return to the other shoulder. Join at neck edge aiul work as follows: First Row.— K2, make 1, k 2 together, k 3, make 1. k 2 together, k 11. Second Row. —K 1, purl to the last stitch, then p 1. Third Row.—K 2 together, make 1, k 1, make 1, k 2 together twice, make 1, k 1, make 1, k 2 together, k 10. Fourth Row. —-Same as second. Fiftli Row.—Same as first row. Sixth Row.—Same as second row. Seventh Row.—Kliit plain. Eighth Row.—Same a<=: second row. Repeat from the first to the sixlh row twice, at the end cast <>n 24 stitches and work across the stitches on the spare needle. Continue and work to corresjMind with the front. Cast off. Press on the <vrong side, and sew up side seams. Edge for Neck and Armholes.—With crochet hook work 1 crochet, 3 treble. 1 crochet in the same hole, then 1 crochet in the next stitch and repeat all round neck and armholes. Draw thread throtigh at neck.
