BATHE FOR BEAUTY
SOME of the pleasantest things in this world are the least costly and the easiest to obtain. Take that daily rite we regard in such matter-of-fact fashion—a bath. Nothing is quite so marvellous as the feeling of revelling in the luxury of water, soap and towels. What we should do without a daily scrub I cannot imagine. Besides making the skin clean and sweet, bathing is an actual beauty treatment. The soapy water removes grime and body waste, the warmth and the vigorous scrubbing stimulate the circulation and send invigorating blood to the surface of the skin; the rubbing scales off the tiny particles of dead cuticle all over the body. The wholeprocess is beautifying. With the aid of a good soap, a bath brush, a coarse face cloth, a thick, absorbent towel and a

bath of water every day we can keep the skin of the body clean, fine-grained and smooth. I believe in being fussy about soap, buying different varieties and washirg with them, smelling them, studying their lathering and cleansing properties until I find just the one I like best. Half the pleasure of the bath is indulging one's fancy for a particular kind of bubbly foam or a certain scent. You may choose between soaps with a light, frothy lather and those with a thicker whipped cream lather. Please yourself about all these details. Once you have chosen your soap, draw a generous amount of water and have ready a big spongy towel —then ;'ou
have all that's necessary for making a perfect bath. Once a week I advise a Spartan bath. For this you scrub every inch of you with a stiff-bristled friction brush, paying earnest attention c> knees, calves, upper arms and back, where the skin has a tendency to become clogged or rough with goose flesh. Finish with a cold shower. Eub yourself dry with more than usual vigour and then if your skin is red or tingles too much powder yourself with some scented talc. This weekly treatment will keep the skin smooth ?nd perfect. A bath in a truly grand manner is more than refreshing rjid enjoyable—it props your faith in yourself when you are facing some important event and feel a bit uncertain of vour power to carry it off. I recommend it as a splendid prelude to practically everything except fire or earthquake, and even then it might not be such a bad notion to go feeling clean, cool and more than usually glamorous.
