WINTER FAIR HELD

ASSISTANCE FOR GIRLS. Mrs. Parry, wife of Commodore \Y. E. Parry, opened the winter fair held in the Town Hall concert chamber yesterday in aid of the maintenance of St. Mary's Homes at Otahuhu. Tn declaring the fair open. Mr-. Parry said the splendid work being carried out at St. Mary's Homes in helping girls could not lie suflicicntly emphasised. It was not, however, possible to train and care for the girls without expenditure. In the present time of stress and worry, and with the rising cost of living, it was only too easy for people, she said, to forget those less fortunate than themselves She appealed to everyone to I spend freely, and thus assist in a work] which meant so much to the need of the next, generation. Mrs. Parry was introduced by Bishop W. .T. Simkin. who spoke hrielly of the importance of the work being undertaken. The fair, he said, was the first public function be had attended since he had become Bishop of Auckland, and he expressed pleasure in the fact that it should be in aid of such an excellent cause. The Rev. P. S. Smallfield, chairman nf the committee of management, thanked Mrs. Parry for the interest she had taken.
