MARRIAGE LEAVE.
WOMEN TEACHERS.
THREE WEEKS GRANTED
The leave to which a woman teacher was entitled to get married was a subject that was considered at some length by the Southland Education Hoard at its monthly meeting. The teacher had applied for three months' leave.
The chairman, Mr. S. Rice, said one month should lie sufficient. However, a
women had to cany out preparations for her marriage, such as sewing.
Mr. L. S. Alsweiler: That is all done 1- months beforehand.
He did not think, said MY. Alsweiler. that more than two weeks" leave should be granted and this could be fitted in with the school holidays to give a holiday of one month. He e:;]>ected to see similinr applications come before the board in the future as there would probably be more marriages of women teachers in view of the war. A precedent should be set and acted upon in all future applications.
Mr. W. Bell projvosed that leave as from July 20 should be granted. This Mould give the teacher three weeks' leave in addition to her. holidays.
An amendment waa then [imposed that two weeks' leave should be granted. If three weeks' leave was "ranted, it would have to bp granted in every future <\:<i\ s«id Mr. Alsweiler.
The amen<" nent was withdrawn, the mover and seconder agreeing to the "ranting of three weeks' leave and the motion was passed.
