CARNIVAL QUEEN.
CROWNING CEREMONY.
With brilliant pageantry, -the full ceremony of the crowning of the Queen of the South, Mrs. Gordon Matthews, was repeated at a special queen carnival concert held at the Town Hall last evening, the building being crowded. Contributors to the programme included Mesdaroes Mary Owers, K. Farrell, Misses K. Christie, P. Boyle, K. Boyle, Messrs. G. Fagan, R. Simmers and" A. Mcllwain. The pianist was Mr. Howard Moody. The coronation ceremony and concert will be repeated this evening, and a children's matinee will be held on Saturday afternoon. Contributions are still coming to hand for the I Sick, Wounded and Distress Fund. The proceeds of the queen carnival ceremony and ball on Tuesday evening were approximately £350, and a cheque of £104 15/ has been received from the New Zealand Institute for the Blind, the proceeds of a recent concert. In the Papatoetoe district over £1275 was raised, and £1600 has been contributed by pupils of schools in the Auckland Education Board's district. A bazaar held at Wicklow Road, Narrow Neck, organised by local residents, resulted in £6 being collected.
