SHIPOWNER'S DEATH.
LATE MR. WILLIAM ROGERS.
LONG ASSOCIATION WITH NELSON.

The death has occurred of Mr. William Rogers, managing director of the Anchor Shipping and Foundry Company, aged 79. His 6"> years* association with shipping commenced in 1875, when he joined the firm of N. Edwards and Company,
whose steamers the Lyttelton. Charles Edward Kennedy and \Vaverley, trading under the name of the Anchor Line Steam Packets, were well known in the New Zealand coastal trade.
Graduating from clerk to purser in 1882, he became shipping manager of the Anchor Steam Ship Company. When the Anchor Shipping and Foundary Co. was incorporated in 1001, Mr. Rogers took over the general managership, which position he held till 1930, when he was appointed managing director. Mr. Rogers was a director of Griffin and Sons, Nelson Tobacco Company, and chairman of the New Zealand Shipowners' Federation from 1934-10.
