CARGO LEFT.
WHEN LINER SAILS.
AUCKLAND INCIDENT.
WATERSIDERS , ATTITUDE.
LATE WORK IS REFUSES. As a result of waterside workers refusing to work past midnight yesterday a vessel loading produce for England by way of New Zealand coastal ports had to leave Auckland this morning with aiore than "200 tons of car«»o left lying in the wharf sheds. The cargo consists largely of corned beef and primary produce of other descriptions. It is possible that the cargo may be shipped at a southern port, ,but no confirmation could be obtained on this point this afternoon. It was stated that about 120 waterside worker.*, working in six gangs, were affected by their own decision not to work the vessel. They commenced work at 8 o'clock yesterday morning, and were requested to complete loading of the vessel, which was considered urgent, even if the time necessary went j<a<t midnight. It is stated that at a meeting among themselves they stated definitely that if all the cargo wa*> not on board bv midnight they would knock off. Thev kept their word and were approached by ]>ort authorities who ordered them to work the necessary extra time— about t'.vo or three hours at the most. The men refused and the vessel had to sail to-day without her full cargo. Another vessel, which also sailed this morning, was fortunate enough to have all her cargo' on board. It was stated in shipping circles that actions such as the watensidere exercised last night is responsible for a great deal of troul»l«j and inconvenience, in addition to retarding the war effort. The produce is required in England urgentlv.
