PROPOSED CESSATION.

AUTHORITY'S STATEMENT
Cessation of the motor road services between Auckland and Rotorua was referred to to-day by the No. 1 Licensing Authority, Mr. E. J. Phelan, who said that the Railway Department had been asked to report and advise when it would !>e poeeible to give effect to the .proposal, after inquiry, in connection ■•with existing services affecting Gisborne, Opotiki, Whakatane and Napier. Further consideration -would be given should it be found that there >vae undue interference with those services. The AucklandRotorua passenger motor service had meant the running of 6453 vehicular miles weekly, and a wsekly consumption of 645 gallons of petrol.
Mr. Phelan added that instructions had been received from the Government to review all goods eervices' licensee, and an ar«peal had been made to operators to get together and discuee co-ordination of services. It was necessary to eliminate all unnecessary running, and operators were helping in every possible way. It was hoped to giive the leaet possible inconvenience to •the public, but restriction had become necee<sary, in view of present conditions.
_ To review licenses, and hear applications for renewal of licenses, Mr. Phelan will ho!d a sitting in Auckland on Friday. He will hold a sitting at the Thames next Monday, at Te Aroha and Hamilton on the following day, and at. Te Kulti next V/eilaaaday.
