RETAIL MEAT PRICES.
NO CHANGE AT QISBORNE. CATS' MEALS NO LONGEK FREE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) GISBOBNE, this day. There will be no increase in the retail ■price of meat in Gieborne at present, although the Price Tribunal hae given authority for a $d rise from the 'beginning of this month. However, there will no longer *be free meat for cats and doge, and all meat secured for thie purpose, whether given away in the past or not, wfli ! be charged for from now on. The Gisborne Maeter Butchers' Association, hae reached these decisions, and, in reviewing the position, the president Mr. F. Forshaw, stated that the decision to retain the present retail rates would cost butchers from £450 to £.500 a month. Mr. Forehaw eaid that at a Jd per lb on the retail price, meat reached about £1 on the price of a cattle beast, and from 320 to 350 cattle were slaughtered for the retail trade in Gisborne every month. Aid per l'b on a eheep equalled about 2/6 a carcase, reaching about £125 a month on the 1000 sheep required during that period.
