WAR PENSIONS.
DISCHARGED MEN.
PROVISION FOR APPLICATIONS
STATEMENT BT MINISTER.
(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day.
Although the Government had passed regulations providing for the re-em-ployment of soldiers by their employees after the soldiers were discharged from military duties, in some cases ex-soldiers would be entitled to war pensions, the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, stated to-dav.
Consequently forms of application for such pensions would be obtainable from any agency of the Social Security Department, and each application would be "determined bv the War Pensions Board. There must of necessity be some delay in dealing -with applications, and discharged soldier* in need of immediate assistance should claim benefit under the Social Security Act, as assistance either for sickness or unemployment could be given under that Act. Any benefit it granted under the Act would not prejudice a soldiers application for a war pension.
