WELLINGTON, this day,
Contributions to New Zealand's war effort are not confined to donations and interest-free loans. The Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, to-day referred to the number of offers which haT© been received by the Naval Department from owners of launches and other craft for naval service free of charge. "There are three motor launches employed in the eastern approaches at Auckland ae an integral part of the examination service," Mr. Jones said.
"These boats were requisitioned for the purpose early in the war, and in two cases the owners have declined to accept charter money which has been agreed upon and which they were entitled to receive. One of these is Mr. J. Martyn Qilaon. The second prefers to remain anonymous. In the third case a motor launch w in trust and the trustees have no power, alhtough they wish to do so, to forgo the charter money." This action, added the Minister, was a real contribution to the war effort and represented in each case the equivalent of a donation of £100 a year to the war expenses account for the duration of the war. i
