HELPING WAR EFFORT.

DECISION BY TEACHERS.

A mass meeting of over 350 teachers of Auckland city and suburban -schools was held in the Concert Chamber at the Town Hall to consider proposals for special war efforts on the part of •teachers of the Auckland province, Mr. W. S. Dempsey, president of the Auckland branch of the 5s T .Z. Educational Institute, presided.

Keen discussion was aroused on the various schemes submitted, and the keynote of the proceedings was a fervent desire to make practical contributions to the country's ivar effort-.

The following proposals, submitted by Messrs. A. Murdoch and E. F. SneJl, were adopted with almost unanimous approval in each case: "That this mass meeting of Auckland primary school teachers pledges itself to make cash contributions to an objective fund of £1000. That committees be se.t up to organise the following activities:—Free labour on farms I y men teachers during the holiday periods; schoolboys' work during holidays :i the homes of married soldiers absent mi service.; schoolgirls,' efforts in providing comforts for soldiers and voluntary help in soldiers' homes; assistance in the reception and welfare of refugee - "hildren br*ight to this leorartry. ,, *
