WOUNDED IN ARM.
ACCIDENT ON BARGE. MAORI'S CONDITION SERIOUS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. Suffering from a severe gunshot wound in the left upper arm, Mr. Vic Ansin, a Maori, was admitted to the Northern Wairoa Hospital at Te Kopuru at 7 a.m. yesterday. He had been injured on a barge at Whakapirau four or five hours previously. The owner of the shotgun was handling the weapon, which he thought was unloaded. It discharged, however, the shot blowing away a portion of Mr. Ansin'e left upper arm.
One of several Maori women on the barge at the time attended to the wound, end Mr. Ansin was taken to hospital. His condition on arrival was too low to permit of him being given an anaesthetic for the amputation of the arm. The Whangarei police were notified, and Detective J. B. Finlay and Constable Rinimer, of Waipu, went to Whakapirau yesterday to conduct inquiries into the circum stances of the accident. Mr. Ansin is aesistant inspector of fisheries at Whakapirau.
