ANNOUNCEMENT SOUGHT.

APPEALS FOR FUNDS. (From Our Correspondent.) HAMILTON, Wednesday. A statement that the Red Cross Society and St. John Ambulance Association were not purmitted to appeal to the public for funds now that the Sick, Wounded and Distress Fund appeal was completed was made at a meeting of the Waiklito Patriotic Committee today.

Mr. W. L. Waddel said there was plenty of excellent work these organisations could do. The recent appeal had resulted in double the amount aimed for being raised, and any funds' they required for any reasonable purposes could be had by application to Wellington. No further public appeals for funds could be made except through the provincial patriotic councils.

The meeting resolved to ask the. Government to make an announcement setting out the position.
