TEAMS WELCOMED.
COUNTRY HOCKEY PLAYERS.
Visitors to Auckland for the annual Country Week tournament arranged by the Auckland Ladies' Hockey Association were guests of the directors of the Farmers' Trading Company at morning tea yesterday.
In the absence of the president of the association, Mr. L. C. Kent, a welcome was extended to the players by Miss P. H. Dawson, chairman of the executive, who said she felt sure the competing teams would enjoy a successful tourney and pain experience through competition. During the matches girls would be selected for the Auckland provincial teams for the Xew Zealand tournament to be held in Auckland in August, Miss Dawson said. She thought it advisable that the players chosen should endeavour to be in Auckland three days before the commencement of play._ This would enable the teams to practise together, which was an important thing in tournament play. The thanks of the visitors were expressed by Mrs. K. Webb, manager of the Whangarei teams, who congratulated the Auckland Association upon its arrangements for the tourney. The visiting teams, with their managers, comprised:—Hauraki Plains, two teams (Mrs. O. Bird); Whangarei, two teams (Mrs. K. Webb); Waipa (Mrs. E. A. Spiers); Rotorua (Mr. J. Batchelor); Rodney (Mrs. M. M. Hamilton); Northern Wairoa (Mrs. X. Randall); Auckland, two teams (Mrs. R. Hamlin).
