MUST PLAY PART.
| EMPLOYERS OF RECRUITS. . APPLICATIONS FOR BELIEF. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) /' ■WELLINGTON", this day. . The Wellington Man-power Commit'? tee, under the chairmanship of -Mr. M. F. Luckie, deputy-Mayor, has been faced with some difficulties oyer pleas from employers for an extension of time for men called up for service, and decided yesterday that a stand had to ho taken in cases where employers were not doing their part. The committee had "before it numerous cases where men who had enlisted three, .four, fiye and even six months ago, were now "being called up, and even at this late stage tlicir employers were putting in picas for further extensions or relief, because they said it took so long to train men .to replace them.
The committee could not have much sympathy -vvitli employers who ihad not taken advantage of the opportunity to train substitutes, and -would not take serious notice of -such picas' where employers had not played their'part, said Mr. Luckie. Tlie committee considered it the obvious duty of employers to commence the training of substitutes as soon as they received notice that the men had been accepted for.service. When they had not taken reasonable action the Man-power Committee could not listen with much sympathy to picas for a further extension of time.
