AN EASY WIN.

FLOODLIGHT SECOND

SOCKETTES HOME

HUNTER'S NIGHT SURPRISES. KACING AT WAIF A. • For. its . winter: meeting ' tho-: Waipa Racing Club, was' favoured with * fine, sunny weather to-day. There was ; a good attendance, and the track 1 was- in good older. Backers started off: well when • they seleeted Sockettes as first choice- in the Andrew Kay . Memorial Hack .. and Hunters' Steeples, for the aged gelding had little difficulty in beating British Islos, the outsider of the whole field. In the next event, tho Arapuni Hack Handicap, however, punters went astray, for tho favourite bracket, Glenbevan and Gas Acre, and Miss : Valerie, the sccond favourite, failed. Hunter's Night surprised and paid a. good double-figure dividend when Tie won from Expellant and Trig Station,

Dauber justified the solid support accorded him when he romped home five lengths in front of Floodlight in the principal race of the day, the W. G. Park Steeplechase,

Comfortable Win. Sockettes, who won the opening event, the Andrew Kay Memorial, ran his best race to date. He' was" always : handy and outstayed the opposition at' the finish to score comfortably. ' British Isles, who created a surprise by running sccond, also registered a good performance, and it was the first time he has been in the money. Tutor stayed .on well to get third. Little Scotch fell at the first fanee and Allmctic led past the stand from Etcetera, Huka Ivingi and British Isles. When they came round

again Etcetera was showing the.way.to Allmetie, Huka Kingi, Sockettes, Bells of Bow, Bay Dawn and Tutor, Fat Boy having fallen at the second fence, of the double. Etcetera was still in charge along the back from Sockettes, Bells of Bow, who had moved up smartly, Allmctic, British Isles and Bay Dawn. Sockettes was first over the last fence from Etcetera, British Isles, Bay Dawn and Tutor. Bells of Bow fell at that obstacle. Sockettes went .on to win by fotir lengths from British iles, who beat Tutor by two lengths. Etcetera, who tire.d over the last bit. was fourth, followed by Allmctic, Bay Dawn and Semiarch. .

Narrow Victory. Hunter's Night led practically all the way in the ArapunT Haek Handicap, scoring very narrowly and re.turning a good double-figure dividend. Expellant, who ran a fair race at Elierslie at the Great Northern meeting, . finished on solidly to be only inches behind the. winner. Trig Station came .from a long way. back t-o get third. Philvaals failed to show up in the running. The fir&t to show out was Acquest, Rose Acre, Joan Peel and Hunter's Night, a.nd Hunter's Night quickly took, charge and led along the back from Star Vaals, Acquest, Rose. Acre, Preux Chevalier, with Miss Eureka moving up . fast. Hunter's Night led into the straight just ill front of Expellant, Star-Vaals, .Miss Eureka and Preux-Chevalier. In a.great finish Hunte.r's Night got' the decision by a head from Expellant,' who ' beat Trig Station by.a similar margin. Star Vaals wae' fourth, wi£h • Miss ' Valerie, Joan Peel and Crlenbevah next. : Dauber Wins Easily.

Dauber, who won ;at Pukekolie and ran a good third in the Winter.Steeplechase at the .Great 'Northern meeting, was strongly supported for'the W. G. Park Steeplechase, the chief event of the day. He jumped well throughout, and taking charge about six furlongs from home, went on to win .very decisively from Floodlight. The latter had also shown good form at the Great Northern meeting, running second, to To Kongo in the Green Lane Steeplechase. : and winning the Tamaki Steeplechase'. He was always prominent and made a good showing throughout. London Was also well up all the way, and was only narrowly beaten for - third. King Key, who was having his first race' over country, led for almost a round and a half before his big weight' began to tell its tale. Passing the stands the first time, King Eey was followed by Forest Glow, Biform, Dauber, London", Flood- ' light, with Smiling Thru well back, j When they came round again London was just ahead of King Bey, who was followed by Floocllight-and Dauber, there ' not being much between this quartet. Along the back Floodlight was .attended by London, King Key and Dauber,, with a gap to Forest Glow,. and Biform. Dauber took charge before the? top was reached, and, entering the straight, was .well ahead of Floodlight, London and Biform. Dauber went on to .win by live lengths from Floodlight, who beat London by half a length. Biform 'was ■ fourth, and -then came Smiling Thru King Bey and Forest Glow." 1 , Results:— ' ANDREW KAY MEMORIAL HACK \\"D HUNTERS'. .STEEPLECHASE of £200 About two miles and a quarter.I—I—SOCKETTES." cli ~ oyr« ' bv" '' ■ Little England—White " Sox Crc%| B ' J " I ' lrrlt, > 9 - 3 —A- Me- ' 10-io—BRITISH ' ISLES."' br ' z 'k~i& 1 (.Mr.- P.
