TIRED AND WEARY
FRENCH SOLDIERS,
Thousands Pour Across Swiss Frontier. • : ' SURRENDER OF ARMS! ■; I*uiloU E'ress Association.—Copyright.(Kcecivcd noon.) LONDON, June 21. A French forcc of at least 50,000, including two generals, surrendered their arms to the Swiss, and poured across the frontier to Goimois, says a Basle message. This Army tried vainly to fight through the German lines in Central Jura. Many of the soldiers were wounded and half-dead from fatigue.
A French communique states: "There is no important ehange in the region of the Loire and the Cher. The Germans farther east progressed towards the region of Riom. French troops are energetically resisting pressure in tlie Vosges."
Tlie* French .communique last night stated: "There has been no special change in the general situation. The enemy has pushed reconnaissance detachments south of Nantes on the coast, and west of Bourges/also toward Montliicon and Vichy. Other detachments advanced south of Lyons and toward Nantna, near the Swiss border." Military circles in Bordeaux emphasised that the French Army in* tho region of Tours, between Nantes and Bourges, was holding up the German advance in the south toward Poitiers. Along tho main line of the Loire the French withdrew a few miles southi ward of Tours to the Cher River.
