PERSONAL.
Mr. H. J. Kelliher returned from Wellington by the Limited express this morning. Captain S. E. Gregory, shore superintendent of the Port Shipping Line, left for Wellington by the afternoon express to-day. The Hons. T. Bloodworth, J. Alexander, R. Mawliete and B. Martin, M.L.C.'s, arrived from Wellington by train this morning. Mr. E. T. Porter, manager in Wellington of the Union Bank of Australia, Limited, is visiting Auckland. He is expected to return to-morrow. The Hon. J. O. CV>ate» aud Messrs. A. S. Richards, C. W. Boswell, P. Carr, P. W. Schramm and C. R. Petrie, M.P.'s, were passengers from Wellington by train this morning. Dr. Arthur E. Porritt, a son of Dr. D. D. Porritt, of Wanganui, and a 3few Zealand Rhodes Scholar, has been appointed officer commanding a surgical division of the Royal Army Medical Corps in England, with the rank of lieutenant-colonel. Archdeacon A.' K. Warren has been appointed to succeed the present Dean of Christehurch, the Very Rev. J. A. Julius, by Archbishop West-Watson witli the concurrence of the Standing Committee and the Cathedral Chapter. Dean Julius has tendered his resignation, which will take effect from the beginning of October, because of continued ill-health.
