SCOTTISH BALL.
SOLDIERS' QUEEN. TERRITORIALS' EFFORT. Stirring Scottish dancer?, appropriate decorations, and the. Highland dress wjorn by many of the 1 guests created a real Scottish;.atmosphere in the Town Hall;last; night, when the president and committee of the Auckland Scottish Territorial. Association 'held a rcgir/ mental ball, in aid of the funds of the Soldiers'.. Miss Mary. Kendall. ' An iinpressivo' ceremony opened- the proceedings. Bcveille was sounded by Bugler W. Harper, after which the curtains at the back ol 'the stage were parted to reveal two Soldiers in the uniform of the Black Watch, standing at attention with fixed bayonets. The soldiers moved forward and presented arms, after -which the orchestra played' the National Anthem. Dancing, was then enjoyed, the programme including the- Highland schottische, the eightsome reel, military two-step and two numbers, "The Dashing White Sergeant," and "Gill to the Pipes," which proved very popular. The .-music for the Scottish dances was played by St. Andrew's Pipe Band, under Uie leadership of Pipe-Major D. W. Court. Tlio guests were received by the president, Mr. James Macdonald, and Mrs. Macdonald. Assisting them was Mra.-.-R. Bruce, a member'of-the committee.
