SALVAGE POSSIBILITY.
The view that while the possibility of raising the Niagara was very remote, the recovery of any valuables it might contain was not beyond the realms of practicability, was expressed in insurance and shipping circles in Auckland to-day. It was pointed out, however, that possible salvage efforts would be. based on local conditions. The ship was believed to have sunk in from 40 to 60 fathoms, and the nature of the coastal currents Mas well known. Another factor was whether the Niagara would have broken up before salvage could be undertaken with modern equipment, which it was most unlikely would be available in New Zealand.
