BIG APPEAL.
SICK AND WOUNDED. STREET DAY PLANS. TO-MORROW'S ATTRACTIONS.
An intensive effort on a big scale is to be made in Auckland to-morrow tn aid the Sick and Wounded Fund. Features will be a street procession on the lines of the one recently successfully I organised by the commercial travellers, |iuid a multitude of attractions including a mock court at His Majesty's Theatre. There will also be a "barrow derby," the latter to be similar to an effort recently held in Christchurch, which resulted in a large amount being received for the funds. Those taking part will be asked to decorate a barrow and fill it with marketable goods or produce to bring an average return of £2, and wheel it in tlie procession. Cash prizes will be allocated for the different classifications of barrows. •Collectors will be in evidence, and the public is asked to give generously. Sale of art union tickets will be on a big scale, attractive prizes being an induce" ment for investment. i A treasure hunt will be held in aid of I J the Air Queen between 9.30 and 10.30 I to-morrow night, within a radius of n J mile from the Chief Post Office. The ;old dock site will be the point of assem- | bJy for the entrants, where they will be given the first of six clues. A Scottish Regimental ball will be held in the Town Hall to-night in aid of the Soldiers' Queen. Announcement of Winner. The winner of the queen carnival will be announced in the Town Hall between noon and 1 p.m. on Tuesday. A community singing gathering, to which an admission charge' will he made, will be held to keep the public interested until the final result is known. The carnival will close at midnight on Monday, and final payments to be credited to the various candidates will be accepted between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Tuesday in the Town Hall. To deal with late amounts, an accounting staff will work on the stage. As long as the treasurer, Mr. C. H. Battley, is advised by noon, any remittances paid into banks on Tuesday will also be credited. The raising of £11 10/3 by a collection at the burlesque football match last Saturday to raise funds for the Sports Queen is reported by the Northcote Kugby Union Club. The committee decided to give all possible help in the "barrow derby" to-morrow. Over £100 has been paid into the Sports Queen fund as a result of the efforts of the ladies' social committee, according to the president of the Auckland Rugby League. Mr. Grey Campbell. On the lati-st tally the carnival has been responsible for the raising of £68,112. Greatest progress has been made by the sports, north and soldiers' candidates. Latest voting figures are: South, 893,255; commercial travellers, 741,:3~4; east, 629,459; air, 585.129; sports, 575,833; public service, 523,500; north. 493,414; sea, 4«4,7G9; soldiers 301,290; Maori, 240.545. Ait Union Draw. The drawing of the Air Queen's big art union, together with the auction of two big sections of land and several other-donations, will .take place in the Town Hall on Saturday moraine next at 11 a.m. Pictures concerning countries embroiled in the war will be presented in the Tudor Theatre, Rcimiere. next Sunday evening. A collection will be taken up for the fund. Cheques continue to come in from stockbroking firms, representing donations of stock by individual farmers throughout the province. A epec-ial grant of 10 guineas lias been made by the Otahuhu Borough Council to be credited to the Public Service Queen. A donation of £100 was received this morning from Campbell and Ehrenfried Company, Limited, £40 going to each of the Soldiers', Sea, Commercial Travellers' and Air Queens.
