NATIONS' HOPES.
FIXED ON BRITAIN.
Restoration Of Freedom In
Europe.
VIGOROUS LEADERSHIP
(Received 11.30 a.m.)
RUGBY, June 18,
The "Daily Herald" says: "By absorbing the first fury of the Nazi assault, France has won for us a precious breathing space. In these weeks we have been able, under new and vigorous leadership, to increase our production of war material. Moreover, within these same weeks the determination to give the utmost material aid to the Allied cause has swept across the United States.
"Now that Britain fights alone American support for our championship of democracy will become even stronger. Yesterday we fought with France, henceforth we fight for France. France, Belgium, Holland, Norway, Denmark, Poland, Czechoslovakia and Austria, in each of these countries where the torch of freedom has been snuffed out by the Nazi gauntlet, men may fix their hopes on Britain's pledge. We will restore their freedom as we defend our own."
Another' typical comment is that of the "Daily Express." "Napoleon was overthrown by an uprising of the people of every country he conquered, inspired by Britain's continued resistance. All nations of Europe depend on our victory for their survival. We are fighting for their lives."
