WELLINGTON STAR.
NAZIS CLAIM SINKING. (Received 1 p.m.) BERLIN", .Tune 17. A German communique states: "U-boats in the last few days have sunk over 41,500 tons of shipping, including 1 the Blue Star liner Wellington Star, the armed cruiser Carinthia and another British auxiliary cruiser in the Moray Firth, Scotland."
The Wellington Star is a new Blue Star Line vessel of about 12,000 tons. She left Liverpool on her maiden voyage to Auckland on October 14, 1939, arriving here on November 18. She returned to Britain about a month later. She has not been here since, but is believed to have made one trip to Australia.
