TWO KILLED.
EVIDENCE AT INQUEST. COLLISION ON BRIDGE. Death from shock following injuries received, was the finding of Mr. F. H. Levien S.M., coroner, to-day, who held inquests into the deaths of Victoria Harnett, a married woman, aged 59, who lived at Silverdale, and Herbert Leigh Vipond, a married man, farmer, aged 45, who lived at Whangaparoa. The deceased were victims of a collision between two care on the main highway bridge at Albany on April 12.
Senior-Sergeant Dunford appeared for the police, Mr. I. J: Goldstine for lan Alfred Titchener, the driver of one of the cars, Mr. Elliott for Vipond and his ipaesengers, and Mr. Turner for Vipond's insurers.
The evidence showed that on the i!*. - of the accident, the deceased, Vipond, wee driving a email car in which he had passengers, and was proceeding soulh along the main highway behind a motor lorry. When the bridge at Albany was reached, the deceased suddenly pulled out fjroni behind the lorry and was attempting to pass it when he collided with a car driven by lan Alfred Titchener, and which had reached the bridge from the opposite direction and was travelling on its correct side. Vipond was killed outright, and Mi's. Harnett, a jtassenger in hie car, severely wounded. She was taken to the Auckland Hospital, where she died two days later. Two other passengers in Vipond's car were injured, also one passenger in the car driven by Titchener.
