MOVE BY RAILWAYS.
PURCHASE OF SERVICE.
NEW PLYMOUTH ROUTE.
Another step in securing tihe complete control of road and rail transport in the Dominion by the Railways Department was taken on Saturday mornisg, when the New Plymouth Daily Transport was purchased. This service comprises a fleet of five modern trucks and garages. It was started in November, 1931, and has built up a fine connection between the provinces of Auckland and Turanaki. The company's staff have also 'been engaged.
Mj\ J. Hannah, the Auckland manager of the railway road services, said up to the present the Department had taken over nine freight services, including tho Felion Waikato Service (rmining between Auckland and Hamilton); the -McClymont Transport (Auckland and Hamilton); Northern Transport (Whangarei, Dargaville and Morrinsville); Parsons (Te Awanratu); Hilders (Otorohanga); Saltors (Cambridge and Matamata); Gisborne Transport (Tane&tua and Gisborne); Hjorths (Putaruru), and Hicke (Hamilton). Iγ. addition, four passenger services had been secured:—Marky's (Hamilton to Auckland); Kusabs (Rotorua and Hamilton); R.M. (Hotorua, Opotiki and sight-seeing), and Kellys (Cambridge). The Department's fleet now totals CO goods vehicles and 53 passenger cars.
