FOUR RUNNERS TAKE A BUS!

I>n Wettern strode home easily in the Great Eastern harrier race from Pakurangs. to rilerslic, a distance of 5J miles, on Saturday, to retain the Savidan Cup which he won last year. The Auckland Club representative finished tirst, 60 yards in front of G. Koefoed TVarslty), with 3. I. B. Nell Presbyterian) a further 100 yards back. Their times were:—Watters, 30.41; Koefoed, 30.53; and Neil, 31.12. I Despite the heavy toll of enlistments, 64 i runners competed. i The humour of the race was provided by | four men who rode part of the Jonrney Jn a bus, and were disqualified after they finished. The Ellerslle Club, which is the youngest In Auckland, should have satisfaction not only in the excellent conduct of the race, but also in the fact that three of its members wore the flret juniors to finish. They were A. Wellborn, 33.12 ; F. Orange. 33.20: and C. Appleton. 33.45. The sealed handicap (White Cup) went to Appleton (6.0), and the Sharp Cup to Wellborn. The senior teams race (Court Cup) was won by the t.ynndale Club (HowelU. Crompton, Browne and Mclnnes), and the Junior, teams race by EUersUe (Orange, Appleton,, Wellborn and Gilbert). '
