Australia Cables Offer To
Britain.
POSITION or NEW ZEALAND. United Px-ss Association.—Copyright. (Received 1 p.m.) CANBERRA, this day. The federal Cabinet has decided to provide a refuge for British children under 32 years of age. Hie Minister of the Interior, Senator Foil, has cabled an offer to the British Government, fhe Commonwealth's tentative plans are to provide homes for evacuated children for the duration of the war, and to have orphans permanently adopted by Australian families. Senator Foil has received hundreds of letters offering to house any children brought to Australia. A cable from London says it is learned that the question of New Zealand taking refugee children from Britain, as re" 1 ported from Auckland, has not been raised in London.
A later message says that iu the House of Commons, Mr. Geoffrey Shakespeare, Under-Secretary for "the Dominions, said the Government does not feel justified in approaching the Do minions with the view to evacuating children to the Dominions.
