COCOA FOR SCHOOL.
GIFT TO WAIHEKE ISLAND, j MILK SUPPLY SHORTAGE. The generous gift of a considerable amount of cocoa by an Auckland firm will be much appreciated by the children of the Ostend (Putiki Bay) School this winter. Many of the pupils have to travel no little distance to school and for some reason which is not clear the milk issue which is customary in the cities and other districts, has not been the custom at Ostend. Such a state of things, residents state, indicates a lack of system on the part of those responsible, for while Waiheke Island is rural enough, the fact yet remains that every household does not own "five acres and a cow," and milk is no less expensive than in the more populous < out res. Possibly the authorities — from holiday visits— have the belief that beinjr an island it automatically flows with milk and lionev.
