WELLINGTON', Wednesday
In a statement to-day the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, said that in connection with the operation of ennteon profits in the naval, military and air force camps throughout the Dominion, arrangements were proceeding satisfactorily' and special attention wa"s being given to the provision of full facilities and the running of canteens on economical lines. The services given in the canteens had been graduallv extended and no effort would be spared in the arranging of further improvements. The Minister emphasised that any profits derived from the canteens were being reserved exclusively for the benefit of the men themselves.' There was no question of absorbing any part of this profit for any other purpose* hut directly in the interests of the men in the camps and their comrades abroad. Several distributions of profits had already lx?en made, both within New Zealand and for units" oversees, and further allocations would be approved from time to time. .Should there be any undistributed profit at the end of the war it would be reserved and held for the benefit of naval, military and air force units. Business transactions connected with the whole canteen organisation were subject to strict financial control and audit by the Government.
