PRISONER SENTENCED.

Brought before Mr. Juetice Fair in the Supreme Court to-day for sentence on three charges of theft from baches on islands in the Hauraki Gulf, a young married man, Eoyden Raymond Winwood, labourer, aged 26 years, was released on probation for three years. Mr. Bryce Hart made a plea for the prisoner on the ground that he had been influenced by an older companion. Counsel said that the prisoner had eince been given work on Kuwau Island by a farmer, who vouched for him as a steady and reliable worker.

Remarking that it was with hesitation that he granted probation, even though it was recommended by the Probation Officer, hie Honor made the term as stated, with a condition that £li» be refunded by instalments of 10/ a week to one of the persons who had lost through the theft.
