STOLE BOOTS.
» WANTED MONEY FOR BOARD. i _____ PROBATION FOR LABOURER. He stole a pair of boots to get money to pay his board, said Reginald Oliver Castle, a labourer, aged 2.'i, who appeared before Mr. C. R. Orr Walker, S.M., at the Poliee Court to-day to answer a charge of theft from a Hobson Street firm. "Accused was passing the firm's shop about 4 o'clock on the afternoon of April 10," said Detective-Sergeant McHugh, "and saw the boots hanging out at the door. He stole them and sold them to a dealer for niue shillings, his explanation to the policft being that he used the money to assist in paying libs board." Mr. McHugh added that accused had been before the Court on April 17 on another charge, when he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon within six months. The present offenec had been committed before that date. "What are you doing now?" the magistrate asked accused. "I am unemployed, but I am waiting to be called up for camp," said Castle. The magistrate admitted accused to probation for a period of nine months and ordered him to make restitution of nine shillings.
