SMACKED WOMAN'S FACE.
MAN SENT TO PRISON. (My Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) GISBORNE, this day. Sentence of seven days' imprisonment was imposed on Arthur McGarvay (54) when he ap|K>ared before Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M., on charges of assault and obscene language. Accused pleaded not guilty. Senior - Sergeant McNamara said accuricd followed a Maori woman along a street, and after an argument he smacked her face. She. ran across the street to get away from accused, and caused a passing motor evclist to have a spill in trying to avoid her.
The motor cyclist gave evidence that he saw accused strike the woman and heard him use filthy language.
