BISHOP OF AUCKLAND.
A new leader has been chosen by the Anglican community in Auckland to replace Archbishop Averill, who for a quarter of a century has given distinguished service to his Church and to the city. The choice has fallen upon Archdeacon Simkin, who, in succeeding so revered a leader, has a very high tradition to follow, and with it has the. practical advantage of long acquaintance with the affairs of the diocese. For over twenty years he has been associated with Archbishop Averill, for fourteen years as secretary of the diocese in Auckland and also of General Synod. He will thus begin his high office with an intimate knowledge of the whole of v the affairs of the Church in Auckland, of the clergy and of the needs and potentialities of the many parishes which he is called upon to govern. In addition to this, his long service as Archdeacon of Manukau has kept him in close association with spiritual development. A recognised authority on canon law and a preacher of ability, Bishop-designate Simkin, who comes originally from the parish of Lichfield, which has a long and traditional association with the Auckland Diocese, dating from the days of Bishop Selwvn, may anticipate the support of the people of his Church in the same generous measure as that accorded to his
predecessor
