The holding of the sale a day earlier was due to Anzac «j> tailing on lhursday. The 6tore sheep >«ile was the best since the ewe fair season. I here was an entry of (XKX), compared with NMK) last week. The improved feed position was the main factor in the recovery last week and this improvement continued, wuh a rise of 2/ to 3/ for tine woolled soi ts. 1 here was little change in coarse woolled sheep prices. Chatham two-tooths brought 30, ; older Chatha in ewes. 26 6; tine-woollcd ewes. 20'6 and 24/3: four-year halfbredii. 12'3 to 12/4; failing-mouthed. i 4; best wctherw, 10/. Xine peng of lambs were entered. These showed a 2/ to 3/ improvement, with forward rape lanil*< at 19 3 anil medium at 16,'6. The tat lamb entry dropped from 1200 to 800. Quality w;im poor. Butchers' sorts sold up to 1/ over the .schedule. Freezing buyers were active at schedule rates. In the fat sheep section there was an entry of 3000. with a small proportion of prime wethers. All classes appreciated. Prime wethers were better by 1/ to 1/6. A scarcity of butchers' sheep caused a firming of up to 2/ a head for primest sorts. Best quality brought 28/ to 32/; tops, 35/10; ordinary wethers, from 22/; good ewes, 23/ to 26/*; prime pens, 29/7; medium ewes, 18/ ito -!2 ; export. 12,6 to 15/. There was a yarding of 430 in the cattle section. A larger number of well-finished steers met a freer demand, good cattle improving by 10/ to 15/ a head. Where quality appealed butchers competed actively. Good beef made 36/ to 38/ a IOOLb. Tops made £18 7/(1; medium to heavy steers. £11 15/ to £15 15/; rough, dsrwn to £8 10/; best heifers. £10 10/; medium, £6 10/ to £8 5/; light. £6; cotvs. £5 10/ to £13 2/6. There was a small entry of porkers, with little change on last week's values. Porkers were in short supply, with a medium supply of baconers and a heavy entry of choppers. Choppers, £3 to £6; porkers. £2 5/ to £3; average price per lb, 7d to 7*/ id: baconers, £3 5/ to £5 8/; average price per lb, 6%d to 7V4d.
